Natoaganeg First Nation (Eel Ground) First Nation is committed to improving the delivery of housing services to the community by investing in additional technical capacity within the Capital and Housing Department . To assist us in meeting this objective we are recruiting for the following position:
Position: Housing Technicians/Technologists
Department: Capital and Housing
Salary: Based on qualifications and experience in accordance with current salary scales of Eel Ground First Nation
Work location: Eel Ground First Nation Band Office
Duration of Employment: 2018-09-04 to 2019-03-08 (6 months)

Eligibility Criteria: This position is being partially funded under the CMHC Housing Internship Initiative for First Nation and Inuit Youth and we are targeting youth between the ages of 15 and 30 but due to the nature of the position youth would require a combination of post-secondary education and experience that will most likely fall within the age range of 21 to 30.
The supporting role of the Housing Technician/Technologist is a critical component to the successful delivery and expansion of community housing services to our members. The 2 successful candidates will work closely with existing housing staff to work on existing and new housing projects as well as help improve/expand the delivery of housing services.
TYPICAL DUTIES: Reporting to the Director of Capital and Housing and working under the supervision of both the Housing Clerk and the Director, the Housing Technician/Technologists will provide the following technical capacity within the department; Typical duties include, but are not limited to:
 Progress and compliance inspections for all Capital and Housing projects for the Eel Ground First Nation
 Assist in the project development and management of projects as assigned
 Assist in the development of the Land Occupancy and Use Information System (LOUIS) platform for the Eel Ground First Nation
 Job assessment inspections for housing renovations and repairs along with developing the scope of work for said renovations and repairs
 Administrative work as it relates to First Nation Housing Programs through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and Indigenous Services Canada
 Draft up house plans (using CADD) for various renovation projects, new builds and special projects
 Other related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
 A Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, a two year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education and experience
 Strong work ethic and
 Computer aided drafting and design in the area of house plans
 Demonstrated experience and success providing support in a technical role
 Ability to relate to, communicate with, capture the interest, trust and respect of individuals with exceptionalities
 Good oral and written communication skills
 The ability to effectively control and deal with difficult people and or stressful situations
 Good human relations and interpersonal skills
 Effective technical writing, record keeping and reporting
 Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
 Strong critical thinking, independent judgment and problem solving skills
 The ability to build effective relationships with the housing department team, Eel Ground leadership, employees, contractors, etc…
REQUIREMENTS:
 Submission of a Criminal Record Check that meets all requirements of working with the vulnerable sector
 Valid driver’s license and willing to travel from time to time
